Prandtl Number Calculator
Calculate Prandtl number from specific heat, dynamic viscosity and thermal conductivity.
Input parameters
Inputs and calculations stay in this browser.
Result
Prandtl Number
Dimensionless result; use dynamic viscosity, not kinematic viscosity.
Equation
Pr = cp μ / k
Applicability
All three properties must be positive and refer to the same fluid and thermodynamic state.
Notes
Dimensionless result; use dynamic viscosity, not kinematic viscosity.
Worked example
For one fluid at the same temperature and pressure, take cp = 4200 J/(kg·K), dynamic viscosity μ = 0.001 Pa·s and conductivity k = 0.6 W/(m·K). Then Pr = 4200 × 0.001 / 0.6 = 7 (dimensionless). These inputs are illustrative.
Results are for engineering estimates; verify final designs against operating conditions and applicable standards.
