Saturated Water and Steam Transport Properties and Heat Capacity

Dynamic viscosity, conductivity and isobaric heat capacity at discrete saturated liquid water and dry steam states.

Conditions and limits

Each row is a saturation state at the stated temperature and absolute saturation pressure; Q=0 is saturated liquid and Q=1 is dry saturated steam. Values are discrete points from 5 to 200 °C; no interpolation is provided.

Isobaric heat capacity cp is the single-phase value at the corresponding saturation endpoint, not a derivative along the saturation curve or an effective two-phase mixture heat capacity. Viscosity is dynamic viscosity. Ice, subcooled liquid, superheated vapor, intermediate quality and near-critical states are excluded; displayed digits do not establish model accuracy.

Lookup example

For dynamic viscosity of dry saturated steam at 100 °C, find the 100 °C row and its absolute saturation pressure 101.418 kPa; vapor viscosity is 0.01223215 mPa·s. This is the Q=1 saturation endpoint; do not interpolate other states.

Generated using CoolProp 8.0.0 HEOS::Water from temperature and quality. Isobaric heat capacity comes from the IAPWS-95 thermodynamic equation of state; viscosity uses the IAPWS R12-08 correlation and conductivity uses IAPWS R15-11. These transport correlations are distinct from the thermodynamic equation of state. Viscosity is converted from Pa·s to mPa·s.

At 100 °C, saturation pressure is about 101.418 kPa. Liquid cp≈4215.67 J/(kg·K), μ≈0.281582 mPa·s and k≈0.677211 W/(m·K); vapor cp≈2080.04, μ≈0.0122322 and k≈0.0245703 in the same respective units.

Published program-verification points in R12-08 and R15-11 check the transport correlation implementations; they use the same correlations and do not independently establish experimental accuracy. Generation also checks every endpoint against a nearby single-phase state.
